The esteemed football figure has stated that he is not seeking a comeback in football management, pointing out that it would be difficult to match the higher calling he felt as the national team coach.

The former coach expressed his intention to dedicate his efforts toward supporting young people and combating what he called a dominant downbeat story now prevalent in the country.

Embracing Different Paths Beyond The Sport

In a recent radio interview, the manager was asked about rumors linking him with available jobs in the top flight and other leagues.

“I’ve had one of the most incredible jobs in football which also had a higher purpose because it was my country,” he responded. “Recreating that unique role won’t be easy. With 37 years in football behind me, I’m excited to identify fresh ways to create impact.”

Commitment to Role Models

Prior to the publication of his new title, Dear England: Lessons in Leadership, he emphasized that he is highly enthusiastic about providing role models for the youth, drawing on lessons from his time as England’s men’s football manager from 2016 and 2024, as well as his experiences as a parent.

He believes that his time managing the squad, during which the team transformed from being strongly criticized to broadly loved, holds broader applications.

“Initially, the relationship with supporters was severely strained,” he said. “Many perceived the squad as arrogant, but we managed to change that perception. I witnessed firsthand how the team could unite individuals from all backgrounds.”

Raising Children and Influencing Youth

Reflecting on his role as a parent, he observed: “You want to give your kids the best possible start, but there is a point when they don’t want to listen to parents any more. I experienced that in my house in the same way everybody else will … but I do think this is an important space for us.”

He went on: “There’s a negative narrative around our country at the moment and we’ve got to give young people hope, we’ve got to give them guidance. We’ve got incredible talent but we need to them to find the right role models, the right friendship groups because those decisions have such a big impact on the rest of their lives.”

Togetherness Beyond Discord

Southgate insisted that “what brings the nation together outweighs what pulls it apart” but that the societal attention often emphasizes division.

“One can see why many feel disillusioned,” he commented. “Financial struggles affect numerous communities, fueling calls for transformation. Yet, I’ve observed the capacity to bring the nation together. During the pandemic, I witnessed neighbors helping each other—that’s when the UK excels, demonstrating strength and unity in adversity.”

His new release, the book Dear England, is expected to provide deeper reflections on guidance and national identity drawn from his distinguished time in football.
