Her Royal Highness's Traditional Christmas Service of Carols Pays Tribute to Community Volunteers

The Princess of Wales is hosting her customary festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring dignitaries, stars, and everyday helpers who have helped their communities.

The sizable congregation will listen to a blend of carols, music and readings from stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor and Kate Winslet.

Centred Around Love and Generosity

The theme of the concert, held in the glowing Westminster Abbey on Friday afternoon, is compassion and demonstrating care for others.

Attending the event are Jonathan and Anna Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, a support fund, to help households where there is a terminally ill child.

"Your efforts, love, and understanding, often without fanfare or recognition, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the lives of others," wrote Catherine in a note prior to the concert.

A Steady Comeback

The princess has been making her own gradual return to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, recently giving her initial major address in two years, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".

Musical Talent and Access

Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to talented youth performers aided by the Future Talent organisation, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to widen access to musical tuition.

Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who performs on the trumpet and is from Wales, has been assisted by the organisation, with grants helping towards musical instruments, lessons and travel costs - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in the evening's event.

"Musical pursuits are frequently pricey," she stated. She is now studying at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.

A Family Affair

Eliza, Carys's sister who is 11, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.

Attending the service will be people from various age groups.

That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to generate funds for food banks.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been adorned with custom-created holiday decorations, with celebrity baker Mary Berry and floral designer Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, the Westminster Abbey choristers and a maritime folk band from Cornwall, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the icing on the cake for us."

The festive event titled 'Together at Christmas' will be broadcast on a major network on Christmas Eve.
